Setoid Commander Autopsy

Sectoid Commander Autopsy is a research project in XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

In-Game Description[]

Proposal[]

The enlarged central nervous system and supplementary neural implants found in this Sectoid variant suggests capabilities unlike anything we've previously encountered.

XCOM: Enemy Within amends the proposal with:

Further study may reveal ways in which we can use these capabilities to enhance our soldiers' protection against their attacks.

Initial Findings[]

This is an extremely dangerous species, Commander. Although not physically intimidating, the 'psionic' power this creature wields is perhaps the greatest threat we've encountered so far.

Project Report[]

Codename: Rosetta

After an extensive analysis of this specimen's brain tissue, we've discovered some unusual activity in the synaptic connections that may be the source of the... abilities our troops encountered in the field. Although somewhat similar in physical appearance to the Sectoid we previously identified, this "Commander" variant has an easily differentiated internal composition. We've theorized that these "enhanced electrical synapses," capable of transmitting nerve impulses at nearly three times the normal rate, are the product of careful genetic manipulation. If our theory holds true, that means the aliens are capable of modifying even the most complex tissue at a genetic level...

XCOM: Enemy Within amends this with:

In regards to our own genetic research, I am hopeful that we can use the Sectoid Commander's enhanced synaptic connections to improve the capabilities of own own soldiers, perhaps in a way that would redirect the psionic powers utilized by the aliens back unto themselves.

Notes[]

  • There is a Second Wave option ("The Greater Good") that prevents this project from unlocking the Psionic Labs.
  • The Project Codename, Rosetta, is a reference to the Rosetta Stone, which allowed for the first translations of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.
  • This research project shares the same codename as the Ethereal Interrogation.
