The Avenger is special spacecraft developed by the Bureau in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
Description[]
The Avenger is made using a hybridization of human technology and alien reversed-engineered technology. It looks like a stereotypical alien saucer (UFO), complete with similar hovering sound.
Although it lacks any offensive capabilities, its possesses reinforced, double-plated armor, and has an advanced cloaking device that renders it invisible to the Alien Mosaic network, although it never actually cloaks. It is also capable of moving at extremely high speeds (faster than any other known vehicle) and can even go to outer-space and survive re-entry.
The Avenger was a top-secret project being built even before the aliens made contact, but it never progressed much past a few blueprints.
Trivia[]
- The Avenger shares its name with an advanced XCOM aircraft that uses alien technology in UFO: Enemy Unknown (1994) and with XCOM's mobile command center (retrofitted alien transport) in XCOM 2.
- The Avenger's appearance is similar to the real-life Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar, a VTOL aircraft developed in 1958 and retired in 1961, although much larger in size, possibly implying that XCOM adapted the Avrocar design and enhanced it for a more practical use.
